We never understood the desire to drive on the beach in Daytona, until now! It had always
seemed so lame, so gauche, so young and dumb. Now, we've come to
understand the benefits and advantages.
You simply go to one of the clearly marked beach access points, pay for your driving pass and head on down the beach. You drive along until you spot a place where you'd like to pull in and unload your stuff. If you don't like the looks of people already there, you simply keep on moving. Or if you do like the atmosphere of that little home, you pull in and setup your stuff.
This is so much better than driving up and down the street looking for a parking spot for your vehicle and then dragging your stuff onto the beach until you find another spot to settle in. You save a step and a lot of hassles. Plus, you get to use whatever you can mange to pack into your car. This is so much easier and enjoyable than elsewhere. Give it a try, then you'll know what you've been missing!

A peculiar note about Daytona beach hotels is that many of them name their properties with other location names. For instance, the Hawaiian Inn where I stayed, certainly doesn't make you think of Florida. That hotel was also a reminder to me that when you call for reservations, you should be very attuned to the attitude of the person you speak to. If I had done this, I would have been forewarned that the many shortcomings of my room would not be properly addressed. Needless to say, I would not stay there again.
